The Greek Advocates
Greek Advocates
The Greek Advocates are a group of Fraternity Men and Sorority Women dedicated to educating and empowering the Greek Community in order to unite against relationship and sexual violence. Their Goals:
- To open up discussion and dispel myths and stereotypes about rape, sexual assault, and relationship violence in the MU Greek Community
- To educate chapter members about the issues surrounding rape, sexual assault, and relationship violence, including how they can 1) help a survivor and 2) play a role in preventing rape and sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking
We believe that the Greek Advocates fulfill a valuable service to the University of Missouri Greek Community by teaching their peers about relationship and sexual violence. They accomplish this task by:
- Facilitating presentations on the issues surrounding relationship and sexual violence in the Greek Community
- Planning Greek awareness events for Rape Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, New Greek Education, and other relevant occasions
- Serving as a trained resource specialist to their chapters
- Receiving continual training in presentation and leadership skills throughout the year.
The Greek Advocates begin accepting applications in October for their Spring training. Training sessions will be held once a week for two hours during the Spring semester. Upon graduation from the comprehensive training, new members will join the Greek Advocates, who meet one hour a week to conduct business and plan outreach year-round, and who help train the new Greek Advocates every Spring.
